作品導覽 / Guide to the Artist’s Work

江洋輝以大同區的「同」字意象作為公共空間中的對話起點,藉由「我們同一國!」語意上的轉換提出某個虛擬國度的想像。藉此,他打造了一座大使館的表皮並展露著友好手段與象徵認同的理念。最終,藝術家除在議題及建築外觀上有效地置換了對象在公共空間中的舊式定義,並象徵性地投射出基地未來的的發展格局與願景。
在最終的理念上,藝術家亦以這段話做了最好的陳述︰
「在這個
moment,我們只需要一件真正友好的事實,那即是︰當我們暫時捨棄生活中一切的預設與立場,回溯著彷如孩提時代"我們同一國!"般瞬間親暱的漾生之感,在我看來,所謂的「理想境界」,便,具---微。 

The Dalongdong area is located in Taipei's Datong District. The “tong” in Datong means “togetherness” or “the same,” and artist Chiang Yanghuei takes this as the starting point for a dialogue on public space. Reinterpreting the phrase, "We belong to the same country," as, “We belong to the country of Togetherness,” he has created a virtual land of the imagination. The exterior of an embassy expresses friendship and symbolizes a common identity. Ultimately, the artist effectively replaces the old definitions of theme and architecture in public space, and also symbolically envisions the scope and the future of development in this area.
Chiang offers the best description of his artistic concept:
"At this moment, we only need one true fact of friendship, which is this: When we temporarily let go of all our presumptions and positions in life, and regain a child's sense of togetherness, then we have grasped a microcosm of Utopia."

 Fact of Friendship: We are together

藝術家以蘭州派出所為基地,選擇以大同區「同」字的廣闊意象作為創作思考的彈跳點,擬仿出某一國度的存在依託——我們同一國大使館,進而打造友好認同手段與象徵性觀念,手法上除了轉化基地既有的辨識印象外,並衍伸出作品中的國家認同符號、旗幟、身分證、書簽商品以及看似具有政戰作用或意念探討的錄像頻道…等。
亦即藉著創作過程中將大同區的文化調性以特立、顛覆、異中求同、同中求異的思維方式,藝術家在外觀及意義上重置了位於重要交通與歷史衢道之蘭州派出所。諸此,除令過往行旅不得不從新看待這個警察局、思考此地的各種可能。


Yang-huei Chiang uses the character “tong” – a word with vast meaning in Chinese and whose English translation is “the same” – from the name “Datong” as the springboard from which to launch his project of revamping the Lanzhou Police Office. A police station embodies a nation’s existence, an embassy of our country of togetherness, as it were, further shaping the means by which we interpret friendship and symbolic conceptualizations. In terms of technique, besides reconstructing the station’s foundation and already-established, recognizable facade, changes were made to the Lanzhou Police Station’s symbol, flag, ID card and bookmark. The result is an edifice with a military-like feel, or maybe a video channel that explores ideas.

The process of creating this piece indeed struck a cultural chord with the community of Datong. Chiang uses a technique of inverting the first and last characters of “Yi zhong qiu tong,” meaning, “Differences pursuing a commonality.” After the switch, the meaning becomes, “Tong zhong qiu yi,” or, “A commonality pursuing differences.” Chiang redesigned the exterior of the Lanzhou Police Office, which stands at an important crossroads both in terms of transportation and history, and redefined its existence, allowing past passers-by not only to view this police station in a whole new light but also to imagine the myriad possibilities for its use.
